So I started with Weebly. No, actually, I started with a group of students who wanted everything fed to them. Attend classes, open notebooks, open their mental mouths and just. get. fed. I didn't want to have anything to do with that. I wasn't a glorified nanny. I refused to let them be spoiled brats. |
And so I started looking for a way to make the information accessible to my students - anytime and anywhere. Like a virtual feeder but they had to do some pushing - nothing served on a silver platter. And they introduced me to Weebly.
Some of my students had dabbled into the Weebly pool and thought it worth the recommendation. So, like any other curious teacher, I checked to see what my students thought was worth the share. And I discovered a treasure trove of buttons and click-and-drags that were easy enough to grasp and take and use!
What is Weebly?
Weebly is a free Website-maker for non-techies. Its beauty lies in its intuitive nature and this beauty is enhanced by its beautiful free themes!
If you're looking into putting together a website all on your own but you don't understand anything HTML or Code or any of that, then Weebly is for you.
It presents you with attractive templates to use as your base and continues to guide you through adding titles, images, slideshows, YouTube videos, columms, dividers... and as it's all drag and drop, there are no rough patches to worry about. Everything is seamless. From signing in to clicking the Publish button.

I enjoy how I can mention it for the first to a co-teachers, bring up the window where I have Weebly open and show them how to work it in five minutes flat. I have worked with some real technologically-challenged people and even they say it's a no-sweat website-maker!
On top of all the ease it provides and the beauty it allows you to select from, it also has a sweet spot for teachers.
Weebly for Education is designed for us. For learning facilitators who don't have much time in our hands but want to create a very accessible source of materials for our students.

I started with Weebly and this is where it all really began. A bank. A repository. An access point accessible to all.
Did I say it's very user-friendly? I did? I did.
So user-friendly that I took on the task of helping facilitate a Weebly workshop for a group of 100+ middle schoolers.
So user-friendly that I'm branching off this to website to include the rest of the English Department at the school I teach in.
So user-friendly that I'm unfazed by it all. Excited, yes. Apprehensive, no.
