Sentences in its active voice have an active subject - the subject is doing the verb. Stories often use the active voice as who-did-it is often more important than what happened.

Sentences in its passive voice have a passive subject - the subject is allowing the verb to happen to it. We use this voice when the event is more important that who-did-it, or when who-did-it s unknown or not important at all.
